About Egi Canie - Cinematographer

I am a Chicago-based cinematographer and producer known for crafting visually striking, story-driven work.​ I was born in Albania, but grew up in Salisbury, CT. I spent most of my high school years working at my family's restaurant. I thought I would end up owning the place, until I took a film studies class my Junior year. I had always loved cinema and I will never forget the feeling of seeing the film we made completed. That made me realize I needed a major career change...

I am a graduate of Loyola University Chicago’s Film & Digital Media program, and was awarded Outstanding Film Student my senior year. During college, my friends and I created a production house, NOVO Productions, where we wrote, coordinated, and filmed nine short films our Junior and Senior year at Loyola. I directed five and was cinematographer on six. This built a strong foundation that I carried across nine feature films and documentaries since graduating. I have served mainly as a camera operator and camera assistant on multiple productions in Illinois, Oregon, North Dakota, Michigan and Indiana. In April 2025, I wrapped my first feature as a Director of Photography on 'One Step Closer To Hell', currently in post-production.

Before filmmaking, I was (and still am) a photographer. You might see me around Chicago with my Canon or Nikon. I mostly photograph wildlife, architecture, and planes.
